The 18th Annual Sidewalk Film Festival August 26-28
Sidewalk Film Festival is produced by the Alabama Moving Image Association, a federally recognized 501c3 non-profit organization with a mission to inspire, encourage and support filmgoers, the city of Birmingham and the filmmaking community. In addition to hosting the annual film festival, we host monthly networking and educational events, a monthly documentary series, short film and screenwriting competitions, manage a youth board and a variety of other year-round programs.

When we first heard that the Ross Brothers were going to be collaborating with former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne on a film about color guard teams, we were both excited and puzzled. Fast forward to the present, and we can confidently say that this is a spectacle to witness. Firstly, the event that Contemporary Color documents, itself, is wonderful. The nation’s top color guard teams perform to live music of St. Vincent, Nelly Furtado, and many other contemporary artists. And secondly, the film truly raises the bar for performance documentaries. I could write an essay about the sound design and the editing itself. If you're on the fence about this, let me say that I think most everyone was, and you're probably going to love it. - Kyle McKinnon
